The Basilica della Salute, on the Grand Canal, in front of St. Mark’s Square, was built to give thanks for the liberation of Venice from a virulent plague. Longhena was the architect and the work of building this immense house of God was begun in 1631 and ended in 1681. Every year on November 21st the Venetians go processionally to solemnize the anniversary of the favour granted.
